Dr. Michio Kaku, World-Renowned Theoretical Physicist to Present Keynote at SC12

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – July 24, 2012 – Michio Kaku, world-renowned theoretical physicist and author, will deliver the SC12 keynote address at the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center.

SC12, the 24th annual conference in the SC series, will take place Nov. 10-16, the first time the conference has been held in Salt Lake City. Kaku’s address will launch the conference technical program at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012. His presentation will build on the themes that shape his most recent book, "Physics of the Future: How Science will Change Daily Life by 2100."

"Our community has entered a phase of radical change as we address the challenges of reaching exascale computation and the opportunities that big data will bring to science," said Jeff Hollingsworth, SC12 General Chair and Professor at the University of Maryland. "Dr. Kaku will provide a unique and inspirational message on the impact that addressing these challenges will have on science and business as well as for society at large."

Kaku is the author of several international bestsellers, including "Hyperspace and Visions: How Science Will Revolutionize the 21st Century" and "Physics of the Impossible." His most recent book, "Physics of the Future: How Science will Change Daily Life by 2100" - the basis for his keynote address - is based on interviews with over 300 of the world's top scientists and presents the revolutionary developments in medicine, computers, quantum physics, and space travel that will forever change our way of life and alter the course of civilization.

Kaku holds the Henry Semat Chair in Theoretical Physics at the City University of New York (CUNY). He received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of California at Berkeley, and has been a professor at CUNY for almost 30 years. He also taught at Harvard and Princeton. Kaku’s professional goal is to complete Einstein's dream of a "theory of everything," a vision of  an equation, perhaps no more than one inch long, which will summarize all the physical laws of the universe. He is the co-founder of string field theory, a major branch of string theory, which is the leading candidate today for developing the theory of everything.

The SC12 Technical Program features peer-reviewed papers covering a broad spectrum of technical research as well as panel discussions featuring research and industry leaders, tutorials, workshops and more. Early-bird registration is available until October 17; more details are available at http://sc11.supercomputing.org/?pg=registration.html.

About SC12
