The Ground is Moving Again in Paradise: Supporting Legacy Codes in the New Heterogeneous Age
SESSION: The Ground is Moving Again in Paradise: Supporting Legacy Codes in the New Heterogeneous Age
EVENT TYPE: Birds of a Feather
TIME: 5:30PM - 7:00PM
SESSION LEADER(S):Ben Bergen, Guillaume Colin de Verdiere, Simon McIntosh-Smith
ROOM:155-F
ABSTRACT:
We are now at least five years into the heterogeneous age of computing, and it is still very much a moving target, with no clear path forward for the evolution of legacy codes. This is due to the many challenges that legacy developers face in this endeavor:
Limited Support for Fortran
Application and Data Structure Design Issues
User Base (support vs. refactoring)
Developer Base (may not be collocated)
This BOF will focus on these challenges and on potential strategies for supporting legacy codes in current and future HPC environments.
Session Leader Details:
Ben Bergen (Primary Session Leader) - Los Alamos National Laboratory
Guillaume Colin de Verdiere (Secondary Session Leader) - CEA
Simon McIntosh-Smith (Secondary Session Leader) - University of Bristol
