MIC and GPU: Application, Porting and Optimization

SESSION: Heterogeneous Computing II

EVENT TYPE: Exhibitor Forums

TIME: 11:00AM - 11:30AM

Presenter(s):Qing Ji

ROOM:155-B

ABSTRACT:
As a leading Chinese company of HPC, INSPUR contributed to the construction of supercomputing systems including Tianhe1A and Sunway BlueLight MPP, which were ranked as #1 at TOP500 2010.11 and #14 at TOP500 2011.11, respectively. INSPUR are experienced at the porting & optimization of GPU at broad aspects, such as life science, petroleum; and CFD etc. More important, INSPUR-INTEL China Parallel Computing Joint Lab was founded at 2011 for the sake of exploring the system and application innovation research on Exascale computing. One of our first topics is Many Integrated Core (MIC), which has been successfully incorporated in many projects: PSTM(petroleum),GRAPES(weather) and ATOM(Life). The project of ATOM was selected as one of top five showcases of MIC at SC11 for INTEL exhibition. In this presentation, a first-hand application case will be shared in order to exhibit the differences of composition, application, porting, optimization and productivity between MIC and GPU.
