Scalable Cyber-Security for Terabit Cloud Computing
SESSION: SCinet Research Sandbox Presentations
EVENT TYPE: SCinet Research Sandboxes
TIME: 9:30AM - 9:50AM
SESSION CHAIR: Brian L. Tierney
Presenter(s):Jordi Ros-Giralt
ROOM:155-F2
ABSTRACT:
Reservoir Labs will demonstrate R-Scope(tm), a high-performance network packet inspection tool that forms the core of a new generation of Intrusion Detection Systems enabling the construction and deployment of cyber security infrastructures scaling to terabit per second ingest bandwidths. Within the SCinet sandbox, R-Scope, packaged as an integrated appliance, will be demonstrated on live 10Gbps network traffic.
R-Scope extends and enhances the functionality of Bro, a highly configurable network analysis framework, through a scale-out architecture leveraging the processing capabilities of advanced manycore network processors. Architecturally, R-Scope is comprised of a collection of R-Scope cells, each of which is composed of fundamental network security elements (Forwarders, Analyzers and Grounds) mapped to one or more processing cores. These R-Scope cells are individually capable of providing the full functionality of R-Scope and the underlying Bro network analysis. The R-Scope architecture narrows the traditional separation between load balancer and clustered analyzers seen in typical cyber security installations incorporating network analysis directly into the front-end load balancer. A uniform analytic expression language is used at all stages of processing migrating intelligence closer to the front end to achieve more accurate and efficient discrimination of incoming packet flows.
We plan to demonstrate R-Scope CSC80, a 1U box loaded with four Tilera Gx-36 processors (for a total of 144 cores) with capacity to perform cyber-security analysis at 80Gbps. This technology incorporates the architecture described in the attached technical paper.
