OpenMP: The "Easy" Path to Shared Memory Computing
SESSION: Accelerator Programming
EVENT TYPE: Broader Engagement
TIME: 1:30PM - 2:15PM
SESSION CHAIR: Sadaf R. Alam
Presenter(s):Tim Mattson
ROOM:355-A
ABSTRACT:
OpenMP is an industry standard application programming interface (API) for shared memory computers. OpenMP is an attempt to make parallel application programming "easy" and embraces the oft-quoted principle:
"Everything should be as simple as possible, but not simpler"
OpenMP was first released in 1997 with a focus on parallelizing the loop-oriented programs common in scientific programming. Under continuous development since then, it now addresses a much wider range of parallel algorithms including divide-and-conquer and producer-consumer algorithms. This talk is an introduction to OpenMP for programmers. In addition to covering the core elements of this API, we will explore some of the key enhancements planned for future versions of OpenMP.
